It seems that Jonathan can pull off almost any look. Previously seen here, in a preppier, off-work ensemble, today’s outfit is a bit more rugged, but still, one that can easily transition from office to bar. He manages to make the denim-on-denim look work, and breaks the monotony with different shades of brown — a camel jacket, tan bag, and mahogany boots. It seems that playing with colour is something that Jonathan finds fun in doing, as we discover.
Q1. How do you try to personalise your outfit, or find some way of making it look different from the usual office crowd?
I’m lucky that I don’t have an office dress code to adhere to, though there are times I wish there was one because it would make things a lot easier. There’s a lot of sartorial freedom at work but I draw the line at wearing shorts. Not because I think they’re inappropriate, but because I don’t want people to see my skinny legs.
Q2. We think that little things can make or break an outfit. What do you personally look for when it comes to shoes and accessories?
I’m not big on accessories, but shoes, yeah. I’ve got a thing for shoes that come in unique colours or patterns. They may be challenging to match but that’s where the fun is, no?
Q3. What are some of the items in your wardrobe or on your dresser that you can’t live without?
Nice underwear. And Bleu de Chanel parfum.
Q4. Do you believe in routine or spontaneity, both at work and off work? How so?
I like routine but I’ve always wanted to be that guy who can jet off for a holiday at the drop of a hat. But I can’t because I have a routine when it comes to holiday packing.
Q5. We often hear people say: don’t work hard, work smart. Have you found any way of working differently?
I think working hard is just as important as working smart. Does having my cat curl up in my lap while I write count as working differently?
Q6. Could you tell us about what you’re working on right now, or a personal project that you would love to undertake?
I’m would love to take on a project that can change my bank balance forever.
Q7. What do you do when you’re simply having a terrible day at work? Or how do you personally cope/deal with stress from work?
Drink my body weight in red wine.
Q8. What’s the one thing you think you should be doing more of, or that you wish you had more time to be doing?
Play with my cat more.
Q9. Who is your all-time favourite musician or band? Or the artist that you’re currently into at the moment
I’m usually obsessed with the whatever’s going viral now. That and ’90s music.
Q10. In light of Dr. Martens #standforsomething campaign, what’s the one thing you stand for? What do you personally believe in, be it at work, or in life?
I stand for equality. Everyone should be able to love who they want to love.
This is a Shentonista project for Dr. Martens Singapore.
