Sneaky Business

We remember a time, maybe just a few years ago, when wearing sports shoes and trainers was deemed ‘uncool’ and left to the legions of town-traipsing tourists who couldn’t care less about what they wore, as long as they got their photo of the Merlion. What changed? We think the trend has its roots in Korean style, where they’ve been nonchalantly mixing form and function long before it caught on in the world of fashion. Then came along Chanel sneakers, Dior trainers, New Balance shoes, Adidas Stan Smiths, and the list goes on, ranging from haute couture to high street. It’s a trend that we wholeheartedly embrace — who doesn’t love a pair of comfortable shoes? — and it looks set to stay. We love the sporty, urban contrast it brings to a feminine, dainty outfit, and with so many different styles available, there’s something for everyone. Whether it’s plimsoles or lace-ups, tennis shoes or slip-ons, if you can get away with it in the office, get on it.
