Roots

We’ve been seeing an interesting appropriation of prints and colours that you might be more accustomed to seeing on ethnic dress. Far from looking like a gathering of ministers dressed in a national costume, however, these Shentonistas manage to make the old new again. By pairing these cherished prints—like batik or ikat-inspired ones—with modern classics, they make a fashionable statement while embracing and remembering the roots of not only their own nationalities, but of others as well. It’s all in the je ne sais quoi and self-confidence when it comes to pulling off these bold looks, and we think that if you have something valuable to be proud about, there’s no reason to be shy.
