Something Old, Something New

What’s something not many people know about you?
I can’t drive! I’m planning to move to New York for work and live there for a year, so that’s pushing me to learn how to drive.

Are you looking forward to it?
I’m excited but scared at the same time. I get homesick and I’ll miss Asian food when I’m away, but it’s a new adventure for me. It’s also going to be my first time living overseas on my own, so I’m looking forward to it. I definitely want to visit the museums, and go to Brooklyn,  because I’ve heard so much about the vintage stores there. That’s all I can think of for now, but I’m sure I’ll find more exciting things once I’m there.

What food will you miss the most?
Probably chicken rice and fishball noodles, they’re my favourite local foods. Besides that, just anything that’s spicy.

What’s a dish that best describes you?
Mala (spicy Sichuan) hotpot! I love spicy food and having variety, and I love vegetables.

We see you have your own lunchbox—are you trying to lead a sustainable lifestyle?
It’s something I’ve only started doing recently. I’m trying to reduce the amount of waste I create, but that’s also a big part of vintage and secondhand fashion which is something I love, reusing old things and giving them a new life.
