A Question Of Change
Tell us about yourself—what do you do?
I’m working in a bank now, but I was just working in consulting until about a month ago.
What made you decide to change fields?
I’m Thai, but I studied in the United States, and culturally our elders always tell us that we should work in consulting and banking, because those are stable industries to work in. So after my studies in a business school, I decided to get into consulting first, as a way to learn about more industries, and after two years of that I felt like it was time for a change.
What are some things you like about Thailand?
I’m from Bangkok, and I like that there’s mix of the old and the new. In the Old City you can visit the temples, and there have been speakeasy bars popping up in recent years, and in the newer parts of town like Thonglor you have the shopping malls and other attractions. What’s great about Bangkok is that living there is really cheap, and there’s good and affordable food everywhere.
What’s a dish that represents you?
Maybe a grain bowl, because I like a mix of everything. I’m a Libra, so I believe in balance—I work hard, but I also enjoy my social life.
What are some tips you have for people who are just entering the workforce?
It’s important to work hard, but you also need to be able to shut off from work sometimes, to maintain your health and well-being. Besides getting enough sleep and resting on weekends, sometimes you just need to take a break in the middle of the work day. It can be especially difficult to stay healthy for those of us working in corporate environments, so I make it a point to walk as much as I can, eat healthy, and go to the gym.
