A New Chapter

Introduce yourself!
My name is Yuan Ching, I’m 22 this year, and I’m currently working as a personal assistant to an insurance agent. It’s my first proper job, so I’m learning a lot of new things, especially about policies, which is really helpful and different for me as well. It also makes me consider a lot of things beyond just financial planning for sure.

What a way to kickstart adulting! Outside of work, how do you like to spend your time?
Usually, I’ll meet my friends and we’ll try new activities. We enjoy cafe hopping or going for karaoke. Sometimes we would just catch up and find somewhere to chill and yap (laughs). When I’m not meeting up with anyone, I try to stay active by jogging.

What’s your go-to karaoke song?
I’d say it’s One Last Time by Ariana Grande. It’s hard to sing, but I sing it for fun and for the vibes (laughs)!

For sure! Speaking of vibes, what’s the happiest moment you’ve experienced lately?
Well this might be a little personal, but I came out of a relationship that lasted nearly five years, which took a huge toll on me. That said, I’ve recently met someone new who makes me really happy. It’s a bit of a bittersweet situation though, as not everyone around me is fully supportive of this relationship.

I’ve moved on, but I think the people close to me are just concerned because of my past, which is understandable. I’m receiving mixed reactions, but at the end of the day, I do feel happy, and that’s all that matters.

True, as long as you’re happy! Final question: is there anything you’d like to achieve before the end of the year?
I’d really love to try horse riding again. I did it once when I was very young, but I’ve forgotten what it feels like. It’s something I’ve been eager to revisit, and I’ll probably give it another go the next time I’m in Johor Bahru.
