Avril can summarise her workplace style into one phrase: “effortless, but still individualistic”. “I get dressed with the mindset of being ready to jet-set to New York, and then followed by Paris at any given time,” she says. Avril believes the key to starting work on a good note is to make savvy choices and invest when and where necessary. “It’s the time to prove that you’re serious so I’d suggest putting in the hours if you have to, and going above and beyond to prove your worth. In terms of dressing, invest in good shoes, a good hair cut and hygiene. This doesn’t necessarily mean you have to spend a lot, it’s about making smart choices.” Avril currently works as a creative in an advertising agency, and loves her job because she gets to pursue her passions — conceptualising and crafting at the same time. However, the “true blue night owl” says she would prefer if she could arrive to work later than 9.30am. Working in the creative industry isn’t easy, especially when it comes to finding a work-life balance, so Avril copes by making sure that she has some “me-time” to reboot. “I love trekking and escaping the city into nature. I can’t function without some kind of sport or working out.” With her love for adventure and the desire to keep moving, her dream alternative professions come as no surprise. “I’d want to be an astronaut — it was a longtime childhood dream — or an Olympian, either in swimming or track.”
