What do you do for work, and how did you get into it?
I run Streething with a friend of mine, Eugene. It is an urban lifestyle magazine that focuses on streetwear and street culture. Eugene and I have always been passionate about everything related to streetwear, so we started growing our passion into a business.

Tell us more about the shoes you’re wearing.
This is an original pair of vintage Air Jordan 1s from 1985. I love to collect shoes, and this particular pair is like the holy grail in my collection. It’s my most treasured piece because I’m a huge Michael Jordan fan, and this was the first pair of shoes that Nike designed for him. They’re also in the same colourway as the Chicago Bulls logo, which is the team that he played for.

Apart from running Streething, what are some of the things you like to do in your free time?
I love to eat, and my favourite cuisine is Japanese food. Apart from food, I love getting to talk to people, so izakaya food is something I really enjoy. There’s nothing too serious about it, and you get to consume a lot of alcohol too (laughs), which is great. I love travelling as well, and I actually just came back from a trip to the US.

What was the highlight of your trip?
I think ever since COVID, being out has been one of the best things ever. We really took that for granted before, so it was nice to just be out and about when I was there, especially being around nature, since we’re in the city all the time in Singapore. We took a road trip from San Francisco to Los Angeles, and the coastal drive was probably the highlight of the trip.

You mentioned you’re a foodie. What’s your go-to comfort local dish?
Probably wanton mee. I love Eng’s—the OG Eng’s, not the franchise Eng’s. I also really like Hainanese curry rice too, especially the one in Tiong Bahru, Loo’s Hainanese Curry.

What’s the best decision you’ve made in the past year?
Probably taking that VTL flight and leaving Singapore to go to the US. There was a lot of doubt regarding the VTL travel lanes, and people were speculating that it might get suspended. There was definitely also the fear of actually getting COVID. But I’m so glad I went ahead with it.

If you could have dinner with anyone—dead, alive or fictional, who would it be?
Michael Jordan. He’s my idol and most of my life revolves around sneakers—especially Air Jordans—basketball, and just the street scene in general. Back in university, I actually chose to study in Chicago because I wanted to watch Michael Jordan play. A lot of the milestones in my life have been revolving around this man, so why not have dinner with him? (laughs)
