Musa was a musician before he took on a full-time job. “I used to play in a screamo band called ‘Piece De Resistance’ for 4 years.” Although they since have disbanded to pursue their own careers, he still draws inspiration from the punk, ska and geek cultures, such as when it comes to his style. Musa enjoys mixing genres and matching colours, and this is clearly reflected in what he is wearing today — a paisley printed shirt and denim jeans, with a pair of quirky Batman socks. He lists Macbeth, Vans, and Saucony as some of his favourite brands and notes that his hobbies, interests, and history play a role in influencing the clothes he wears. Musa considers himself lucky to be unrestricted by a specific dress code at work, and is able to dress the way he likes without much hassle. “When I’m in a rush in the morning, or having a bad hair day, I’ll just wear a hat or a cap,” he says. “My supervisor says I have every right to be myself!” Musa believes that having respect for people goes a long way. “Patience and resilience is also key as the nature of my job requires me to work on weekends,” he says. “It is very difficult to juggle personal time with friends and family.” However, he manages to cope by having hobbies or making travel plans to places where he is able to immerse and escape. “I believe in taking leave and going on holidays with my loved ones every 6 months at least.” Off work, he intends to reform his band in the coming year, and dreams of being a comic or sci-fi writer. With a collection of close to a thousand DC comic books, Musa has watched every episode and movie of the Star Trek series. The avid fan aspires to live life by a motto from the series: “To go boldly where I have not gone before.”
