Art Aquatic: Tsumori Chisato At Audi Fashion Festival

A former designer at Issey Miyake, Tsumori Chisato presented a collection replete with intrigue, beauty and art. Backstage, the designer was beacon of calm and composure amidst the activity- a chirpy, joyous lady who was quick to laugh and banter.

Meanwhile, models had their tresses plastered into sleek, bandage-like dos- a clean, precise style that well contrasts the elaborate, theatrical quality of the clothes. Makeup was pristine and minimal save for a bright pop of red.

A spirited collection that was awash with painterly flourishes, material juxtapositions and sophisticated silhouettes, the show was nothing short of a buffet for the eyes. Aquatic-inspired motifs like lobsters were keenly featured throughout, while colours tended towards the oil-based quality of crayons- where ceruleans, aquamarines, mustards and reds pepper the collection. Furs and knits were also utilized in unconventional ways, like a wrap sweater that resembled a child’s drawing being materialized in 3D. As the final looks rolled out in all its brilliance and the designer took to the runway, audibles gasps of appreciation and approval sounded from the audience, wrapping up a fascinating, comfortingly odd and  undoubtedly beautiful collection.
