Debra describes her personal style as comfortable, and says that she is at the stage where she likes longer skirts that still flatter her shape. “I’ve had enough grief squeezing myself into too-tight dresses and falling over high heels in my early 20s,” she says. Debra tells us that there is a more formal dress code to adhere to when working in the legal industry. “I’m actually okay with that because that way I don’t have to think too much about what to wear when I’m in a rush, and can pick a ‘uniform’ of sorts.” On days when she feels that “a grey dress doesn’t cut it” and she needs some variety, she incorporates some of her weekend items, like casual accessories, to break the monotony. “I think different people have different things that work for them, but I’d draw the line at something that makes you come across as unprofessional,” she says, when asked for her advice on dressing up for work. Having worked with “a really cool writer” on a potential webcomic while she was in college, Debra said that she would have loved to be a comic artist. “Unfortunately, once I went to law school, I couldn’t keep up with a proper drawing schedule.” She stills draw sometimes, however, whenever she needs a creative outlet. Despite the challenge in balancing time commitments, Debra tries to find more legal pro bono opportunities, and in her free time, plays the violin. “I sometimes gig with my friends, or play in their events.”
