Form and Feeling

Introduce yourself!
I’m Hui, and I’m actually an architecture student student in Nanyang Poly! Currently, it’s the holidays, but I’ll be going back to school real soon for my final year.

I’m packing at the moment as I leave for a school trip to Taiwan tomorrrow! We’re going to visit buildings there, learn about the local architecture, and work with students from Taiwan, Japan, and Korea.

Do you have any favourite designers or architects you look up to?
I’m in love and very passionate about Tadao Ando’s works, which are mostly churches and religious spaces. His play on cement and other materials definitely evokes an almost spiritual feeling—I don’t know how to describe it. I’m not religious myself, but when I see his work, it makes me feel very much in awe.

What are some of your hobbies?
Honestly, I love photography! I’m trying to do a bit more exploration in different mediums. I’m also trying to customise my own clothes, just to make it a little less boring and basic. Right now, I’m doing painting by hand with bleach and fabric paint.

Since we’re more than halfway through 2026, is there anything you would like to accomplish by the end of the year?
I’d like to have an art booth at one of my school’s events. There’s an event coming up that’s called SDMFest and it’s specifically for students and alumni. It’s a platform for all artists to gather and sell their wares. If I get a booth, I think I’ll try to make and sell little seal charms!
