When we last saw Dana, she had just started her internship in Finance, sporting a much dressier outfit with her long hair bleached and dyed a pale lilac. Today, in a tee and jeans and a much shorter hairdo, she looks all ready for a casual Friday. Dana shares that she has learned how to be more focused at work since the last time we met, which might be due to the guidance she’s received from the mentors at her workplace. “I get to interact with older people during my internship, which is something I’ve never had the chance to do.” One thing she has yet to figure out, though, is how to handle the delicate balance between work and personal life. Dana confesses that working has made her realise how much of her free time — previously spent on meeting up with friends — has been cut short. However, she’s content to know that she’s doing something useful with her time. She gives this piece of advice to people in a similar situation: “Try to reach out to your friends and have short dinners and small catch ups. Just make sure they don’t feel like you’re drifting away from them.”
