Claudia’s dress reminds us a bit of Minnie Mouse, and she says she does feel a bit like the cartoon character. Such a cheery outfit isn’t the norm for her, she says, and she usually has to leave the bright colours at home when she goes to work. Claudia used to be a contemporary dancer, and even though she doesn’t dance so much these days, she still carries the same amount of poise and grace. We find out more about her as we speak to her.
1. Do you have any problems with the dress code at work? How do you personalise your outfit?
To be honest, I would wear a uniform to work if I had to, and have no complaints about that whatsoever! That being said, I find that accessories are great for personalising and switching up an otherwise boring outfit.
2. Do you have any fashion pet-peeves when it comes to workwear? Or do you have any advice for dressing up for work?
I think it is important for one to be professional and take pride in one’s work, no matter what one’s vocation is, and dressing and looking the part is an outward expression of that.
3. If you weren’t working in your current profession, what would you be doing? Or, if you could do anything you wanted to do, what would it be?
It was about 4 years into practice when I decided to take a break and got a job waiting tables. Feeding people the food they love is very fulfilling! It does not pay the mortgage though.
4. What is one piece of advice you’d give to anyone who’s just starting work? Or a lesson you’ve learnt at your time at work?
Do not let people look down on you because you are young, but be humble enough to learn and respect those who have more knowledge and experience than you.
5. Can you name us something Singaporean that’s close to your heart?
Changi Airport holds a very special place in my heart. I was not born in Singapore, and the day I landed at the airport more than two decades ago is one that I remember well. To this day, the airport greets me with a big “welcome home” every time I return, and is a reminder of what I love about Singapore: its cleanliness, efficiency, and safety.
