Jeraldine describes her style down to a tee: “Androgynous, futuristic, minimalistic, geometrical and occasionally, with a touch of grunginess,” she says. “Silhouette is of upmost importance. I’m always on a look out for garments that are structured or have interesting details and finishing touches.” In this stark black outfit comprising of a neoprene top and hardware inspired accessories, combined with her short, shorn crop of hair and sprinkling of geometric tattoos, Jeraldine’s style is clearly her own. As a fashion designer, she’s free to experiment and explore different identities, and also to put them into her work. “I love the entire process of designing, and being able to realise my ideas and concepts into something tangible,” she says. “What’s gratifying is the outcome — the portrayal of confidence when a woman wears my design.” And although Jeraldine says that drawing or sketching is her own form of escapism, she also says that she’s a little too energetic for her own good, and is constantly on the go. “It’s funny but if I wasn’t doing what I’m doing now, I’d like to be a detective,” she says. “I’ve always had an inclination to psychological crime, and I’m drawn to anything mysterious. I feel this urge to solve something or find the answers. It probably stems from being keen on analysing situations, people, patterns, etc.” When she’s not busy at that, or designing, Jeraldine visits new bars with her friends, or takes a trip to the museum for some inspiration. “I love how it feels like you’re in a completely different dimension when you enter a space.” True to her nature, and her love of black, Jeraldine’s favourite quote of the moment comes from Japanese designer Yohji Yamamoto: “I think perfection is ugly. Somewhere in the things humans make, I want to see scars, failure, disorder, distortion.”
