“Do what you feel like doing, do what makes you happy, and do it now.” With this personal motto, Janelle has her mind set on starting her own business this year. “I ran an online fashion shop for three years, and realised that nothing beats working your ass off knowing that it’s all for yourself,” says Janelle. “My plan was to experience and understand how it’s like to work for others before I commit to being my own boss.” Her choice to join the finance industry, for now, could have been inspired by some advice she once received: “Luck is what happens when preparation meets opportunity. Be prepared for opportunity.” Since she’s always raring to go at work, Janelle finds solace in baking and cooking, activities she find therapeutic. What about sports, we ask, noticing her Fitbit. “I’m not a sporty person, I just wanted to track how far I walk everyday!” she laughs. “The furthest I’ve covered is 21 kilometres.” To stay healthy, Janelle tries her best to watch what she eats, naming The Salad Shop and Grain Traders as her favourite places to chow down in the CBD.
