There’s a vaguely Scandinavian feel to Ying Ying’s outfit today — from the soft hues of her look, to her geometric necklace, to the pale wooden soles of her shoes. It’s clear that accessories make the outfit for Ying Ying. “I usually personalise through accessories,” she says. “I’m not someone who is into fussy designs; I prefer clean lines that come with a twist. I look out for interesting items or outfits that come with a special cut or design.” She doesn’t believe in dressing in a branded outfit from head to toe. “Mixing branded items with high street ones is perfectly fine! It doesn’t need to cost an arm and leg to own something nice.” She draws the line at extremely tight, short, or revealing outfits, however, saying that she doesn’t understand how people are comfortable coming to work in such items. If she wasn’t working in banking, Ying Ying says she might have pursued a career in interior design instead. “Very different from banking, indeed! I enjoy looking out for interesting designs in buildings, furniture or small decorative items, as well as colour combinations that make the designs pop.” While she sometimes finds it a challenge to balance her work and life, she says it all boils down to personal choices and prioritization. One thing she’s learnt from her time at work that she’d like to pass on? “Respect and trust are earned, not given.”
