Near And Dear

Introduce yourself and tell us what brings you to the CBD.
I’m Nathan, and I’m currently studying in university, doing law. I haven’t specialised yet, but I’m focusing more on contract law for now.

As for what brings me to this area, I’m just here waiting to meet someone.

Studying law must be pretty stressful! How do you like to spend your free time?
I play a lot of sports like rugby, and I play for school as well as with an external club, which is what I’m focusing more on now because Singapore has quite the rugby club scene. But if not, then you can find me gaming a bit, or doing some reading.

Do you have a book recommendation for us?
I’m into Murakami these days, and I’m currently reading Men Without Women. It’s quite interesting because it’s a collection of stories about men without a woman present in their lives.

But honestly, I haven’t been finding a lot of time to read, even though I’d like to.

Let’s talk about fashion then. Is that in interest for you too?
It’s definitely an interest. I’m influenced by my mum as she was the one who got me into fashion. She’s just a counsellor, but she is really fashionable and got me into it at a young age.

Why did you choose to pursue law instead of fashion?
I chose to pursue law in order to sharpen my mind. I was also inspired by the way people who have read law carry themselves well, as well as their excellent reasoning skills. I thought that such skills would allow me to value-add wherever I go in the future, law or otherwise.

What’s one thing you’d like to achieve this year?
I would want to make more time for the things that really matter to me, such as my loved ones. I hope to make more time for them by learning how to say no to work and prioritising my loved ones more in my life.

To do so, my goal is to have at least one day per week where I’m free from any work distractions so that I can focus solely on spending time with my loved ones.
