How I got into advertising:
When I was living in Sydney, I came across a campaign by Tooheys Beer called 6 Beers of Separation, stemming from the theory of “6 Degrees of Separation”. The campaign revolved around four lucky applicants traveling the world with a six pack of beer in search for their respective idols. I thought it was a really entertaining piece of work that made use of the product in an ingenious way, and that opened my eyes to the world of advertising.

Scariest thing I’ve ever done:
Possibly shooting in Pakistan! This was a project for a telecommunications company. The thought of shooting in Pakistan and the journey there was pretty worrying. I still remember the customs officer asking me why I was visiting Pakistan, and I also had to take a propeller plane to Sukkur, the city that we were shooting at.

It turned out alright in the end, however.
Throughout the shoot, I felt really welcomed by the locals in Sukkur as they were all very genuine in trying to get to know us, and some of the kids even gave us little gifts before we left. We saw kids playing leisurely at parks, and I was glad to be able to see a side of Pakistan that is barely documented in the media.

Something interesting about myself:
I was a student director back in school, and directed three short films. It was a really small team so we all took up multiple roles, which was really fun. I took up the role of a director, cinematographer, editor, and producer, while my partner wrote, scored the film, and played the lead! The films provided me the opportunity to crystallise my interpretation of the world and feelings at that very point of life.

Philosophy I’m living by right now:
I believe that we create what we consume, so it’s important to explore more and know what the best is, even if you are not sure how to achieve it yet. This has helped to refine my taste and hopefully enabled myself to create better work!
