How long have you been working in the CBD area?
I work in the oil and gas industry, and I’ve been in my current company for the past three years. But I’ve been working in the CBD area for over 10 years now, in different companies.

I’ve always dreamed of working here in the CBD actually, but after working a few really late night shifts, that magic feeling’s kind of worn off already. But these days it’s been quite okay. My job requires me to work 24/7, or at least just keep a lookout on my work phone, but I don’t work till late at night in the office anymore.

When you do have some free time, what do you enjoy doing?
You won’t normally catch me out here in the afternoon actually, because most of the time, I’ll be in the gym. It’s become a habit to destress at the gym, either in the morning or in the afternoon. I actually treasure my evening time these days, so I always sacrifice my lunch hour to gym in the afternoon.

Anyway, there are always so many people out for lunch in the afternoon, so I’d rather go to the gym, then buy lunch and eat at my desk.

What about weekends? How do you usually spend your time?
I monitor my work phone on the weekends, but I don’t really work per se at my desk. Weekends are my rest days. I really work out on the weekdays so that I can rest on the weekend.

I like to do recovery workouts—you know, maybe go cycling, do a bit of jogging, some swimming, or I’ll just rest if it’s been a really tiring week. I do workout with my wife at times. Unlike me, she doesn’t like being out in the sun that much. But I’ll be attending a spin class for the first time because she kind of convinced me to join.

Apart from that, I like to cook. So sometimes, over the weekend, I’ll just think of things to cook on the weekdays, and go out and buy ingredients.

Do you have a signature dish?
One simple dish that I tried making again last week was mapo tofu. I actually like mapo tofu. It’s very simple to cook, so I like to make mapo tofu at home. I think my friends also know this, because I always post about it on my Instagram. So yeah, it’s something that I’ll always make, again and again.

A good, simple meal would be having some porridge, some meat, some vegetables, 干煸四季豆 (Sichuan dry fried green beans), and mapo tofu. It’s not very healthy though (laughs).

What’s something most people wouldn’t know about you?
I don’t know, am I considered tan? Surprisingly, I’m deficient in vitamin D as per my recent blood checkup, and I’m not sure what I’m supposed to do about it besides exposing myself to the sun more (laughs).
