Joachim’s dress code at work is pretty relaxed. “Basically, we just need to be decently dressed, but when the need arises, we have to be ready to dress to impress at impromptu meetings,” he says. Some tips? “It’s always important to dress appropriately for work, but never discount on comfort and the colours that work for you. For example, if you’re working in an office and need to wear a white shirt, mix it up a little — instead of black pants, blue or navy or dark green would be nice. As for shoes, black and brown are common now, so navy or rosewood or dark maroon would be nice as well,” he advises. “End result: suave, quirky (with the colours), but overall still smart.” The best part of Joachim’s job, besides the dress code, is that he is exposed to working with different clients and people from different backgrounds. “I like the challenge of tailoring a specific campaign for them to suit their needs, but also keeping in mind their preferences.” In trying to balance work and life, Joachim finds that being transparent is often the best way of keeping everyone happy. “It is important to have your loved ones and friends understand the nature of your job, so that they will be more understanding of your schedule,” he says. “But if you also keep your word to appointments and agreements, they will respect you and will be more likely to forgive you when impromptu cancellations happen.” If he wasn’t where he was now, Joachim would have liked to be a music journalist or reporter. “Music was one of my earliest interests when I was growing up. It started from learning the piano at the age of 4, to being part of a military band in secondary school. As I grew up, in my rebellious teen years, I turned to independent music and would attend gigs to the likes of Plainsunset, Force Vomit, Electrico, and The Great Spy Experiment, all of whom are local musicians.” He went on to attend music festivals both at home and abroad, to widen his musical perspective. “It would have been great to be a band manager too.” Joachim was previously seen here.
