Tell us what you do for work, how long have you been in this job?
I work in Client Service for a tech firm where I provide clients with the best experience they can have with our software.
I’ve only been in this role for less than a year after I moved from Operations in the same company. I made the position change because I wanted to try something new and be client facing for once, rather than working in the backend.
So far, I enjoy the unpredictability of customer service and the interactions that I have with people who use our software. I can truly get a sense of how they feel about it and try to resolve their grievances, which is quite fulfilling.
You work from home four days a week, how do you stay focused during work hours?
Not gonna lie, it was difficult at the start because there are so many distractions at home, but being in a new role required me to really focus and put in more effort into my work. As such, I got the hang of it with time and I now prefer this flexible style of working.
You’ve brought your skateboard with you, are you on your way to go skateboarding?
I’m actually on my way to Por Vida, an indoor skate park at GR.iD mall, for skateboarding lessons.
Skateboarding was always something I wanted to try when I was younger, but I never found the time to do so. Somehow, I got myself a skateboard and picked up the sport just two months ago, and it’s definitely a hobby I wish to continue.
The sport is difficult and there’s a constant fear of falling as I’m not as young as I used to be (laughs), but I just do what I can.
Other than skateboarding, what else do you enjoy doing in your free time?
I also like to build mechanical keyboards just for fun because there’s so much more customisation available when you do it yourself—I can change the switches, key caps, colours, and even the layout.
Personally, I prefer smaller keyboards, so I got a 65% one without the number pad and function keys. I think they look better and take up less space so your hands don’t have to travel all over the place (laughs).
Since you live in the Joo Chiat area, do you have any food recommendations for us?
There’s a pretty good Thai food place at Katong Square called Khao Hom by Rung Mama. If you want dessert, then Hay Gelato does really good ice cream.
