Describing her personal style as “classic, simple, elegant, and majoring in monochromes”, Daphne believes in being comfortable at work, but also in dressing according to the occasion. “I bust my ass off at work for long hours, so I think it is important that I’m at my most comfortable to fight the day,” she says. “But I will definitely put in more effort in dressing up if I were to have meetings with clients, or if I have dinner plans after work.” Working in the creative industry means that there are no hard and fast rules, be it the dress code or coming up with ideas, and that is what Daphne loves about her job. “I am learning about the world every single day — by meeting clients representing all sorts of different brands in different industries, and by doing different things for different types of audiences, I get to open my mind, widen my perspective and understand the world,” she says. Although she only recently joined her company, and is still finding out about the ‘real world’, Daphne finds that it is important to do what you love. “The beginning is always the toughest because you’re adapting to this whole new environment, and we definitely have to work harder than anyone else to catch up and also prove our worth,” she says. “Work only gets tougher — there will never be an easy day, so this is why passion is so important. That’s how, when things get tough at work, you can remind yourself why you are doing this and why this is all worthwhile.” Daphne does admit that work can become quite time-consuming, and while she manages to catch up with her friends over the weekend, she struggles with having too little time to herself. “It is always healthy to spend time alone. Technology also allows people to intrude into our lives every second, so I try to maximize my me-time by minimizing online communication like Whatsapp and Twitter when I am alone, so that I can focus on doing other things I love like reading articles and watching TV series.”
