What does your work as a product designer entail, and what do you enjoy most about it?
I do UI/UX design for apps. I actually majored in illustration in school, then along the way, I pivoted into product design. What I like most about my job is that I get to improve people’s lives using technology.

Outside of work, what do you enjoy doing?
I like to do yoga, specifically aerial yoga and Ashtanga yoga. Outside of that, I also do some arts and crafts stuff. I like to bead and make accessories, and do macrame.

When did you first start doing yoga? Have you always been interested in both of these forms?
I think I started around four years ago, but I only recently started doing it more seriously last year. Something I like about aerial yoga is that it helps me to overcome my fear of heights. Yes, I’ve fallen a couple of times (laughs), but I think it’s quite fun. And the community is very supportive.

Ashtanga, on the other hand, is very different from aerial yoga. It’s actually a fixed sequence of poses that you do, and what I like about it is that there is a routine, and after every session, I feel that I’ve really worked my body. We do the same thing in every class, so you can tell your body’s really improving with each session, and kind of adapting to the poses.

You have a very bright hairstyle! Do you normally like to experiment with colours in your hair?
I gravitate towards warmer tones, so colours that I like go for would be orange, pink, and red. Initially, I only dyed the inside parts of my hair, and maintained that hairstyle for one year, then I went to my stylist Linh at 1tto+LIM, and she said “You know, if you just dye the insides it’s going to look the same. How about you dye your fringe?” Then she dyed my fringe, then I went home not really knowing what to do, because it’s quite loud. And my parents were like, “Why you dye until so ugly?” I was like, “No, you don’t understand!” (laughs)

Who is your biggest inspiration?
The people that I come into contact with everyday, like my friends, my colleagues, and my therapist.

What is one thing you’ve learnt about yourself in the last year?
I’ve learnt that I’m quite a warm and loving person (laughs) if I want to be.

What is something you’re hoping to become in the future?
I hope to become a better human and a better friend.

What’s one thing that you think should be taught in schools?
I think what should be taught in school is free play. I don’t think that is really promoted in our curriculum right now. So free play involves things like doing role-play with the children, and encouraging kids to express themselves, and not just fit themselves into a certain mould or go down a certain career path.
