When In Roam
What are some of the challenges you face as a freelancer?
Discipline—finding the discipline to do something, or setting aside time to get work done. It’s not like working in an agency where you have deadlines to meet—you have to set your own deadlines and push yourself. The rewarding part of it is having time to myself, and getting the freedom of working around my schedule.
What are some things you can’t live without?
Guinness stout, and spicy food. I like most spicy things, from mala to chilli padi to sambal belachan.
Best advice you’ve ever received?
To believe in myself, because I’m generally quite a self-doubting person. My friends tell me that I should be more confident, so “fake it till you make it” is quite applicable in my case. (laughs)
Most memorable travel experience:
Taking the Trans-Siberian railway from Beijing to Moscow—that was five and a half days of not showering. (laughs) I was quite lucky to travel during the off-peak season, so the train wasn’t packed.
If there was a song that played every time you entered a room, what would it be?
The Man Who Sold The World, by Nirvana.
