Shimin says that her dressing is inspired by Nordic styles, and sometimes even Brit pop. We certainly see that edge of London grunge to her look today, possibly inspired by Lorde, one of her favourite singers at the moment. Working in the advertising industry means that her dress code is pretty flexible, and she usually plans her outfits for the day or week according to her mood. A clever tip: she has backup plans if she has an important dinner or event to attend at night. “For example, I might switch from casual jeans to a leather skirt and heels with some accessories for a night event.” Shimin feels strongly about the way creatives are treated in her industry; sometimes, she says, creatives are treated like factory workers, churning out ridiculous amounts of work, unable to produce anything inspiring. Nonetheless, she’s decided to stick it out and to fight for what she believes in. “You should choose to do something that you really enjoy — something that you will never have to drag yourself to every morning,” she says. “Most importantly, especially for creatives, you should never work for free.” Perhaps her fighting spirit comes from the fact that Shimin has survived two bike accidents in the past. “They say, “A cat has nine lives: three for playing, three for straying, three for staying.” I guess my time isn’t up yet!” She makes time for the small but important things in life, like leaving work on time so that she can have dinner with her parents at least once a week. We think Shimin is a true trooper; she also subscribes to this quote by Bruce Barton: “Nothing splendid has ever been achieved except by those who dared believe that something inside them was superior to circumstance.”
