Yet another year has come and gone, and we’re thrilled to present our deserving winners for 2015. Nalinna was our runner-up last year, and was determined to win this time round. She garnered the most votes on Facebook, making her the People’s Choice for Shentonista of the Year, while Fey’s ardent fans and unusual dress sense gave her our vote for Team Choice. Congratulations! They each win a prize of goodies from the awesome folks at We Need A Hero, Browhaus, Fred Perry, GOODSTUPH, Foreign Policy Design Group, CLUB MONACO, Grain Traders, Kilo, and Luxe Singapore. We’re also giving a prize to the person who left the best comment as well; if you participated, head over to our Facebook page to see if you won.
Here’s a look back at Nalinna’s and Fey’s posts:
April 7, 2015 — Slow Life
Nalinna, Designer, shoes from Jeffrey Campbell, DIY-ed top.
Every time we meet Nalinna, she seems to have an exciting new project at hand, or something new that she’s made for herself. She describes her style as ‘The Forest Wanderer’, a cross between a bohemian and Japanese Mori Girl style. “My jobs are my hobbies,” she says. “I do sewing, designing, styling, drawing, painting, baking, and photography, among others.” With so many activities on hand, the most important thing to have is discipline, she says. “I have to set a ‘to do’ list and try my best to complete it at the end of the day, so that I keep everything on track. I work independently, so there is no boss to chase after me!” One of the best parts of being an independent designer is that she is able to work at her own pace and time. “I work whenever I’m free, and most of the time I work at home, so I get to meet friends when it comes to traveling and collaborations. I get to spend time with my family almost everyday!” It’s hard to categorise exactly what Nalinna does, and she says that it’s quite hard to explain. “I’ve often been asked, ‘So what do you actually do?’ I don’t work office hours, nor do I work for companies. I draw whenever I want to, and paint on a rainy day. Some days I bake to share recipes, or make drinks for food styling. Sometimes I’m behind the lens. I sew when a new dress is needed, and become a vintage collector every time I spot something. I sell stuff, and I make small money, but it’s enough to save and live through each day. In this quiet corner, in my small world, I adore the life that I have.” It seems that Nalinna is having fun just exploring life and indulging in all the things she loves to do. “The greatest happiness comes from the things that you put your heart into.”

Fey, Media Buyer, scarf and jumpsuit from A Lodge
How could we miss Fey? In this fire-engine-red, oversized jumpsuit and quirky accessories, she stood out even in the lunch-hour throng. Her jumpsuit and top are from one of her favourite stores, and she uses a scarf in a weather-appropriate manner by tying it into a choker. She amps up the quirk factor even more with a green clutch with prints of people who look like they’re out for a jog. Fey says that she only wears colour on certain days, however; today was just one of those days that she felt like wearing red. “I work in advertising, so we don’t really have a dress code. I can wear almost anything I want!” She jokingly describes her style as “free style”, but thinks she relates most to the norm-core style of dressing of late. “I just go with the flow,” she says. Words to live by.
A big thank you to everyone who took part in the contest this time round! We’ll be back at it again next year, for 2016, so if we approach you on the streets, don’t be shy! We’d love to tell your stories as well.
