What’s the difference between Frankfurt, where you’re from, and Singapore?
I think the biggest difference between Europe and Asia in general is the work-life balance. Germans tend to be very family-oriented and enjoy their free time, while people here are stay in their offices till very late. Germans would never do that. (laughs) People here are very driven and even work on weekends, which Germans would never do.
How did you end up doing photography and film-making?
I’m a very creative person—I paint a lot and I love taking my camera around. I love to capture everything from emotions and feelings to skyscrapers in the city.
Have you been to Singapore before?
It’s my first time, I’m visiting my boyfriend who’s living here. I’m planning to come back again next year.
Do you have any role models that you look up to?
I look up to film-maker Christopher Nolan very much because he makes movies using very traditional methods—there’s not a lot of computer-generated imagery; everything’s very analog and back-to-basics.
My favourite movies:
Stoker by Park Chan-Wook, and Interstellar by Christopher Nolan.
If you could live in a TV series, what would it be and why?
I’m a huge fan of fantasy and Game Of Thrones, but I don’t think I’ll live there because I’ll probably die after two episodes.
