An Absence of Colour

Coco Chanel perhaps said it best when it comes to wearing an all-black outift: “Women think of all colours except the absence of colour. I have said that black has it all. [Its] beauty is absolute. It is the perfect harmony.” It’s not hard to see why black is such a popular choice in outfits: it’s elegant and chic, it’s slimming, and it looks good on just about everyone. However, a full-black outfit can also easily look one-dimensional, severe, or even sombre. But who says that black can’t be fun? Try playing with the fabrics in your look, like matching a silk blouse with a leather pencil skirt, to include a variety of textures. Alternatively, look for pieces that have accents, like knots or pleats in unexpected places, to add some depth up your ensemble. As they say, black will always be the new black, and you can always build your wardrobe based on these classics.
