A sharp look doesn’t always need to be squared off or colour-blocked—asymmetrical hems on pieces are a different way of making for an interesting look that’s just as neat and a touch more eye-catching. A layered hem on a form-fitting pencil skirt can draw attention to the legs, and create opportunities for experimentation with prints and patterns, or textures with a mix of fabrics. Besides being comfortable to move around in, a roomier skirt with folds or pleats can make for a sense of movement and add some drama to the overall look. Of course, this isn’t limited to bottoms as well—an uncommon hem on a shirt can break up the monotony of a two-piece combo, as well as act as a great conversation starter.
