Unexpected

Featuring (from left to right, top to bottom): Amelie, Jia Ming, Candice, Rooban, Vanessa, and Jaan

We kicked off our We Need A Hero x Shentonista Everyday Heroes series this week, and it reminded us of some other people who work in some of the more unusual or uncommon occupations we’ve come across in Shenton Way. Jia Ming is a fruit seller in Geylang, while Rooban is honing his skills as a hawker in his father’s Indian food stall. Amelie is a dermatologist; Candice works as a policy maker; Vanessa is a headhunter; and Jaan works in the fragrance industry. It’s fascinating to see the melting pot of industries that have congregated in the central business district, and while there are some areas that house more corporate companies, and some others that are home to more creative businesses, we’ve started to see the two worlds coming together, especially in the way that people have gotten more experimental and open-minded in their dressing — what used to be completely unthinkable to wear to a straight-laced, professional workplace is suddenly not so shocking anymore. It’s something that we’re truly excited about, and we can’t wait to uncover more unusual occupations soon.
